Ngā Āhuatanga

In this paper, students develop knowledge and understanding of the Social Sciences learning area. Opportunities will be provided for the examination of the nature, purpose, and structural elements of Social Studies in the Social Sciences. Participants will research, resource, and plan for issues-based social inquiry. Through engaging with Social Sciences contexts and pedagogies, participants will explore evidence-based and teaching as inquiry approaches and understand research as ethical teacher practice. Pedagogy will include the examination of, and evaluation of, contemporary educational research that informs and influences teachers as practitioner researchers.

This paper is taught through a range of approaches including recorded lectures, backyard trips, Zoom sessions, online discussion forums, resource support, readings review, and guidance for assignment work. Refer to the Schedule below for weekly topics, and backyard trip timetabling. Most weeks we will offer a Zoom tutorial for which you can sign up during block week.
